Erin Bisco
has been a practicing massage therapist for over three years, graduating
from the Flint School of Therapeutic Massage in December 2004 at the top of her
class. She has been employed as a Manual Medicine Technician at The Center For
Progressive Health and Wellness, Monroe,
MI since August of 2005, working
for two doctors of Osteopathy.
Horses are an important part
of Erin’s life as she has been involved with
them since before she could walk. As a child she spent many hours trail-riding
in Mid-Michigan; weekends were very clearly designated as belonging to the
horse. At 15 she started cleaning stalls at a small racing barn in the Thumb
area; getting opportunities to exercise trotters and pacers and learn more
about the horse industry in it’s many forms. She has taken formal dressage
lessons from a SE Michigan-based well-known dressage and jumping instructor,
trainer and show judge. At present she is a trail rider and is learning how to
be a pleasure driver along with her mom and equine companion, a 12-year old Haflinger pony mare.
While in Massage
School, Erin
received contact hours for working on her own horses and discovered how much
she enjoyed equine body work. After starting at the Center for Progressive
Health and Wellness, she began using Manual Medicine Therapy to treat her
horses, at the time both being geriatric equine athletes, and saw a great
benefit for horses with sports injuries, both recent and old. During the Spring
of 2007 she was certified as an Equine Massage Therapist to continue to pursue
her passion of working with horses using Manual Medicine Therapy and helping to
return the client’s body to a state of health.
Future plans include
Acupressure Certification and Low Level Laser Therapy in combination with
Manual Medicine Therapy for horses and dogs. In addition, she will be offering
clinics to balance the horse and rider as a working unit.
